The White Rose - Our Spiritual Symbol
The Meaning of the White Rose
Many people may be surprised that we chose to use the White Rose as our spiritual symbol, as the most popular symbol for Spiritualism is depicted as the Sunflower, for the belief is it always turns its head to the sun, but as an independent Spiritual church we desired something more personal and unique.
On March 3lst, 2016, we celebrated our first adult Spiritual Naming Ceremony, officiated by our Honorary Minister, Rev. Susan Dinsmore.
(March 31st was chosen for this special ceremony as it marks the anniversary of the beginning of Modern Spiritualism)
Roses were used for the blessing of each candidate, as they received their spiritual name. It was such a beautiful experience, we quickly adopted the Rose to be our Spiritual symbol.
When we asked our congregation what the Rose meant to them as their spiritual symbol, this was their response:
To us, the White Rose means,
Integrity, Purity, Peace, Tranquility, Freedom, Awareness, Eternity, Infinity, Healing, Harmonious, Unity, Trust, Enlightenment,
Honor, Faith and Devotion,
... and through Love, the Rose blooms.
We continue to embrace the rose whenever we have an official celebration such as our naming ceremonies, ordinations and especially our 100th Anniversary, at which time we had this stained-glass window made for our front door to commemorate this special occasion.
The EHSC Board of Directors thank all who donated to the creation of this beautiful piece of history.
