The Main Forms of Mental Mediumship

The Main Forms of Mental Mediumship:
Below are the principal recognized forms we teach and use at EHSC. with deeper explanation of how each functions. how they differ, what participants might experience, and how to approach them responsibly.

1. Evidential Mediumship - Description and How it Works
Mental mediumship involves the medium receiving impressions through their consciousness-via the mind, emotions, inner hearing, sense impressions. The communicator (from the Spirit World) supplies identification, life details, shared memories, personality traits or messages. The medium interprets and relays those impressions into language, so the recipient recognizes the communicator. This is the  most common practiced form of mediumship, in public demonstrations and private sittings because it balances clarity, safety and functionality.
Sub-Modalities

With mental mediumship the medium may specialize in:
Clairvoyance - (clear seeing) - mental images.
Clairaudience - (clear hearing) - words, phrases, names heard internally or subtly
Clairsentience - (clear feeling) - emotional impressions, bodily sensations, energy signatures of the communicator.
Claircognisance - (clear knowing) - sudden intuitive knowledge.
Clairolfactance - (clear smelling) and Clairgustance - (clear tasting) - in which the medium senses aroma or taste connected to the spirit's memory or life.
The "Clairs" are subjective experiences (inward sensations) which also can be objective on occasions (affect the physical senses) yet only the medium experiences them, so they are still subjective.

2. Trance Mediumship - Description and How it Works
Trance mediumship is a deeper form of communication where the medium enters an altered state of consciousness, allowing a spirit communicator to speak, teach or work through them more directly. The medium may relinquish some conscious control or all dependent on ability, while remaining supervised and ethically responsible. The state may vary from light overshadowing to deep trance in which the medium's voice, posture or personality temporarily shifts.
Due to the consciousness being altered, it is still aligned  with mental mediumship, albeit on a deeper level.
Forms and Manifestations:
Trance teaching/demonstration:
The communicator may deliver a teaching address, inspirational message or group guidance.
Trance artistic/creative expression: Spirit may use the medium to speak, paint, write, or perform in ways the medium may not consciously initiate.
Trance healing:  The spirit guide may channel healing energy via the medium in deeper states.

3. Inspirational Mediumship - Description and How it Works
Inspirational mediumship conveys the sprit world's upliftment, teaching encouragement and insight in more expansive or creative ways, not always through a one-on-one reading, but often through public addresses, creative writing, art, music or group contemplation. The emphasis lies on the inspiration, spiritual awareness and growth rather than the detailed evidential content.
Forms you may encounter:
Inspired speaking or sermons:
a medium/minister shares a message under spiritual influence, aimed at upliftment and community.
Inspired writing: the medium or communicator writes spontaneously, bringing wisdom, poetry or guidance (not to be mistaken for automatic writing, (which is physical mediumship).
Creative mediumship: art, music or performance impressed by Spirit for healing, reflection or inspiration. Commonly known as channeling, as less focused on "naming names" or life detail, inspirational mediumship still honors Spirit's continuity, the law of love and service.

4. Healing Mediumship (Spiritual Healing) - Description and How it Works
In healing mediumship the medium, often supported by Spirit Guides or Helpers, channels healing intent, prayer, energy or spiritual support for a recipient's well-being, mentally, emotionally, spiritually or physically. This may occur in-person (contact under supervision), remotely (absent healing) or in group settings.
Spiritual healing does not overlap with mental mediumship, the purpose is therapeutic rather than demonstrative or giving or messages, while healing takes place, as the healer does not want to take the energy away from the healing process, which communication would. Here at EHSC, we believe this to be unethical practice in healing.
Forms you may encounter:
Contact healing:
The medium lays hands, offers prayers, visualizes healing light in a physical/etheric field.
Absent (remote) healing: The medium works behind the scenes, often quietly, aligning intentions and Spirit energy towards the recipient.
Trance healing: A deeper state where the medium allows spirit more direct influence (see trance mediumship above)
Group healing: A healing service, group prayer or spiritual healing circle, often led by a medium or minister supported by trained healers.

5. Physical Mediumship - (This is not Mental Mediumship) - Description and How it Works
Physical mediumship is the more extraordinary category in which spirit-influence phenomena manifest in the physical environment. This may include raps, table movement, independent/direct voice, object movement (apports/asports). levitation, transfiguration, or materialization.  It's rarity in level and the strict conditions required, mean it is less commonly offered in standard church services, but remains in the history of Spiritualist tradition.
Examples of Phenomena:
Percussion/Raps: knocks or taps, responding to questions.

Table tipping/movement: objects move seemingly without visible cause.
Independent/direct voice: a voice heard by all present, separate from the medium's normal vocal chords.
Materialization or ectoplasm: (rare and historical) where a form or substance is seen.
Levitation/apports/asports: objects or forms appear/disappear, move through space.
However, many of these phenomena require very strict controls. (light, environment, ethics, documentation)

Choosing the Right Form for You:
If you are seeking contact with a loved one in Spirit and verifiable detail, consider a mental/evidential mediumship sitting.
If you desire healing, support, spiritual/emotional well being, explore healing mediumship (always alongside professional support when needed)
If you are drawn to teaching, philosophy, group insight, you may choose a trance demonstration or inspirational service.
If you are curious about the phenomenal physical evidence and are comfortable in structured demonstrative settings, explore physical mediumship, only through experienced and ethical practitioners.
